The 2005 Sunrise Date is an initiative by the Uniform Code Council (UCC) that states by Jan. 1 2005, all U.S. and Canadian companies be able to scan and process UPCA, EAN8 and EAN 13 Symbologies at point of sale. In addition, as a best practice, product identification numbers must be used in their entirety without modification. These numbers are known as Global Trade Item Numbers (GTIN).
