Ryzex is passionate about serving the needs of our barcode and data collection customers, but we're also unwavering in our commitment to the environment.

From internal initiatives to the very services we offer, you can see that care for our environment plays a key role in our business model and all our executive decisions. And we’ll continue to put our planet first. After all, preserving the Earth is not only good for our company, it offers countless benefits to our people, our customers, and our future.

For our company

Ryzex’s beginnings were based on green thinking. Founder Rud Browne watched as discarded electronic equipment began piling up in landfills. Seeing this as an opportunity to both do good and offer much-needed service, he began as a broker house – flipping equipment out of his apartment. He quickly moved on to fixing old equipment, and today, Ryzex is an international technology services company with locations across three continents and a staff of nearly 400 people. Our focus on recycling and environmental responsibility is stronger than ever, though.

At Ryzex headquarters in Bellingham, Washington, we have taken the steps to become a zero-waste company, saving $18,000 in disposal costs annually and, more importantly, precious space in our landfills. All our trash is sorted and recycled. All our food is composted. We’re even able to generate revenue from these practices.

For our people

Environmental stewardship is not just a corporate stance, it’s a spirit that has spread throughout our team. Ryzex personnel have bought into the efforts and participate in recycling and energy conservation programs every day.

We invite Ryzex team members to bring in waste from home that we can recycle on their behalf. We also offer a recycling hotline that employees can access with any questions. In addition, we’ve won “Best Places to Work” awards due to unique employee benefits like our alternative transportation initiative. We offer incentives to employees that choose eco-friendly methods for their work commute, whether it’s carpooling, public transportation, biking, or walking.

Our people have openly embraced our company’s environmental mindset and made it their own. You’ll find that this attitude has often extended into their home and family lives.

For our customers

Our environmental commitment has been an asset to external audiences as well. For instance, we’ve expanded our recycling and responsible disposal services to our customers. After all, environmental concern is at the very heart of our FullUse® promise of lifecycle support to customers. Whether we’re recharging batteries to prolong their life or reusing still-viable parts to replace damaged ones, customers know they can get “full use” out of their data collection equipment. The bigger picture: more electronics and other hazardous materials are staying in use and out of landfills.

For our future

Outside our walls, Ryzex has taken countless steps to help create a more proactive, more sustainable community, one that will continue to serve as a healthy, thriving environment in which to work, live, and play for generations.

Our combination of corporate culture, business model, and community involvement earned us a place in Inc. magazine's "Green 50" - the top 50 companies with an environmental focus.

We purchase 6% of our energy from green power, which has helped Bellingham become the first EPA-designated “#1 Green Powered Community” in the country. We’ve retrofitted our lighting to be more energy efficient. We’re connected to a number of local and national environment-related causes, including the Whatcom Watershed Pledge, Basel Action Network, Sustainable Connections, and National Bike to Work Day. We donated nearly $2000 to the Arbor Day Foundation, who planted 1900 trees in our customers’ names which will provide the following over the next 50 years:

almost $60 million worth of oxygen
over $117 million in pollution control
over $70 million in water recycling
over $30,000 in soil erosion control
