Ryzex RoHS Statement
The Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive seeks to reduce the environmental impact of Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE) waste by reducing the amount of six toxic substances commonly used in the manufacture of these products (Lead, Cadmium, Mercury, Hexavalent Chromium and two types of flame retardants). Beginning July 1, 2006 EEE that does not comply with RoHS cannot be placed on the EU market.
The European Commission has stated that one of the goals of the directive is to prolong the useful life of the EEE that was in use prior to RoHS taking effect. The directive also allows for the resale and reuse of product that was placed on the market prior to July 1, 2006.

What is RoHS?

What are the potential business impacts?
The RoHS Directive will likely impact current installations of mission-critical systems in cases where the manufacturer of the equipment plans to, or already has discontinued production of the product, electing to no longer manufacture RoHS compliant versions.
In this case, when a company seeks to expand, replace or repair equipment in a current installation base they will be unable to obtain product or parts from the manufacturer.
This will force the users of these discontinued products to upgrade an entire system significantly ahead of schedule. Obviously, financial and manpower impact could be significant if your company has not budgeted or forecasted the change.
However, the RoHS Directive and the complementary WEEE Directive were not intended to prematurely accelerate the de-installation or obsolescence of products containing these toxic substances.
To the contrary, the European Commission has stated that one of its goals is to prolong the life of the current installation base. The directive also allows the resale and reuse of product previously on the market *
