With the EU Directive on the Restriction of Hazardous Substances(RoHS) fast approaching, due 1st July 2006, Ryzex, a leading supplier of barcoding and scanning equipment solutions, has performed a survey of major retailers, which reveals that over 75% of respondents do not have an action plan in place for the legislation.

The survey of IT managers revealed that respondents have no long term strategy in place to help them manage their barcoding and scanning equipment, which could leave them with obsolete equipment and no technical support.

Equipment that does not comply with RoHS cannot be manufactured or imported into the EU after the 1st July 2006.

"This could impact current installations of mission-critical systems which could force users to upgrade an entire system significantly ahead of schedule with significant financial implications," commented Tim Ames, Managing Director of Ryzex. "We are advising all our customers to look at their strategies now to minimise impact of the legislation."

Ryzex is working with its customers to navigate the challenges posed by the RoHS directive; helping expand, maintain and repair legacy systems for as long as is required.
